Description Agios Efstratios
Three hundred persons live permanently in the island of
Agios Efstratios. They mainly deal with the fishery but also with the
livestock-farming and less with the agriculture. A big part of the ground of the
island continues belonging in monasteries of Athos, in the Abbeys of Megisti
Lavra, Dionysiou, Katakallou, that rents it in the local. Previously, from the
16th century until the beginning of decade the '60s, the economy of the island
was supported by a large extent in the collection of oaks. The last years the
tourism has begun to develop. The beautiful and clean beaches, it is that
attracts the foreigners without of course, to underestimate the fresh fishes and
the exceptional quality cheese. As do not exist highways in the island the
access to most of the beaches in made by boats: in Agios Antonios, in Tragari,
in Lidario, in Gournia, in Panagia, in the Kalamι e.t.c.
